13 Best Brisbane & Gold Coast Engagement Photo Locations: The 2026 Insider Guide
Choosing the perfect backdrop for your engagement shoot is about more than just a pretty view—it’s about finding a place that reflects your unique energy as a couple. Are you the type to lace up your boots for a mountain hike, or do you prefer the refined lines of historic city architecture?
Whether you want the salt in your hair at a Gold Coast beach or a quirky, sentimental session at your favorite local laundromat, the “where” should tell your story. My goal is to capture you just “being you”—whether that’s a relaxed stroll along the pier or a sunset picnic in the hinterland.
I’ve spent years scouting the best light across South East Queensland. Below is my curated list of favorites, but if you have a secret spot in mind, let’s make it happen!
THE Spit
Best for: Coastal variety and iconic jetty shots.The Spit remains my #1 recommendation for a Gold Coast engagement shoot because of its incredible versatility. You get the best of both worlds: raw coastal greenery, the structural lines of the jetty, and a panoramic view of the Gold Coast skyline that glows during the “Blue Hour.”
📸 Photographer Tip: Park near the Seaway Kiosk. We’ll start in the shaded forest trails for those “moody” shots before heading to the beach as the sun begins to dip.
Burleigh Heads National Park
Best for: Elevated headland views and basalt rock textures.Burleigh offers a rugged, natural look that is hard to beat, especially where the forest meets the sea.
📸 Photographer Tip: This spot gets busy on weekends. I recommend a weekday sunrise session or weekday afternoon.
Ormeau Fields
Best for: “Golden Hour” tall grass and rustic, open landscapes.If you’re looking for that “dreamy, sun-drenched” field look, Ormeau is the place. It’s a hidden gem for couples who want a wide-open, romantic feel without driving all the way to the mountains.
Tallebudgera Creek
Best for: Crystal clear turquoise water and relaxed beach vibes.
Tallebudgera is world-famous for a reason. The still water on the creek side is perfect for couples who don’t mind getting their feet wet for a few candid, playful shots.
📸 Photographer Tip: We usually head to the “hidden” northern side of the creek. It offers more privacy and beautiful limestone rocks that act as a natural reflector for your skin tones.
EMERALD LAKES
BEST FOR: EUROPEAN CHARM, TIMELESS ARCHITECTURE, AND ROMANTIC WATERFRONT VIBES.This is for the romantics. With its Mediterranean-inspired buildings and cobblestone paths, you will feel like you have been transported to a coastal Italian village without leaving the Gold Coast.
📸 Photographer Tip: Aim for a late afternoon session. The way the golden hour light hits the pastel buildings and reflects off the water creates a stunning editorial glow that is hard to beat.
Gold Coast Pine Forest (Pizzey Park)
Best for: European forest vibes and “moody” lightingThis Miami pocket is incredible for its tall, straight pines and the orange-hued needle floor that provides a natural warmth to every frame.
📸 Photographer Tip: This is the best “all-weather” location. Even on an overcast day, the tree canopy provides beautiful, soft light that makes your skin look flawless.
Brisbane Powerhouse, New Farm
Best for: Industrial-chic and urban “Engagement shoot Brisbane” sessions.For couples who love the city, the Powerhouse offers textured brick walls, rusted steel, and great graffiti art. It’s the ultimate “cool” backdrop for a modern engagement session.
Kangaroo Point Cliffs
Best for: Unbeatable views of the Brisbane City Skyline.Kangaroo Point is the classic choice for a reason. Whether we are at the top of the cliffs for the sunset or down by the river for the city lights, the energy here is unmatched.
Tamborine Mountain
Best for: Autumn leaves, waterfalls, and misty mountain air.Mount Tamborine is a photographer’s playground. We can hit the Botanic Gardens for some seasonal color (especially in Autumn) and finish at a hidden waterfall just minutes away.
Roma Street Parkland
Best for: Manicured gardens and tropical plant variety.If you want a “garden party” vibe, Roma Street offers everything from arid desert plants to lush tropical ferns, all within walking distance of the CBD.
UQ (University of Queensland), St Lucia
Best for: Sandstone arches and the famous Jacaranda season.The historic sandstone architecture here provides a timeless, “editorial” look. If you are lucky enough to book your session in October/November, the purple Jacarandas are magical.
Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens
Best for: The Tropical Display Dome and diverse ecosystems.The cactus house and the geodesic dome are perfect if you want something a bit more “avant-garde” and architectural for your photos.
Fortitude Valley ROOFTOP
Best for: Luxury, editorial vibes and the city skyline.For a high-end engagement shoot in Brisbane, nothing beats a Valley rooftop.It trades the busy streets for a sophisticated, “top-of-the-world” feeling with the CBD skyline as your backdrop.

Planning Your Session: Timing is Everything
