EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Frequently Asked Questions

Wedding Photography FAQs

At this moment in time, I am sure that you have a lot of questions. After all, this is a very exciting time for you and your partner.

To trust me to photograph one of the most important days of your life is something I do not take lightly, I am thrilled and honoured that you are here. So yes, you should have questions, a lot of questions.

HOW DO WE ENQUIRE?

Send me an email at info@mariocolliphotography.com or fill in the contact form here.

WHEN WILL WE RECEIVE THE IMAGES?

Usually between 5-6 weeks depending on if you are married in off-peak or peak wedding season.

HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE?

Wedding coverage starts from $3290. I offer different wedding collections based on your needs. Please contact me for a detailed price list.

WE HAVE QUOTES FROM OTHER PHOTOGRAPHERS WHOSE PRICING IS CHEAPER. WHY WOULD THIS BE?

It’s likely they will have less experience, lower quality equipment, or don’t plan on being in business for very long. I’m committed to this for the long haul and have priced my collections at a price that reflects my experience, service, quality, and time spent.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR GETTING THE MOST OUT OF OUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY?

Firstly, make sure that both you and your partner are on the same page and both invested in making photography a priority at your wedding. For this reason, I only meet with clients when both of you are able to make it to the meeting.

DO YOU TRAVEL?

I sure do. In fact, I love traveling to new locations and will go wherever you invite me. I am based out on the Gold Coast, Australia. From here, I travel both nationally and internationally to shoot weddings. I’m in Sydney quite often, so if you’re getting married there, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
No matter where in the world you are thinking of having your wedding, I can be there, so don’t be afraid to get in touch.

WHAT TRAVEL COSTS ARE INVOLVED?

Travel and accommodation are the only costs that will vary from client to client. I will always do my best to keep this to a bare minimum and make any extra costs as economical as possible. As each wedding is unique, please contact me for a quote specific to your day.

CAN WE MEET FOR A CHAT BEFORE THE DAY?

Absolutely. In fact, I insist on this. If you’re close by, let’s grab a coffee. If you’re a little further away, we can organize a Skype date or phone call. Either way, I feel it’s extremely important to get to know each other. I put no limits on the amount of pre-wedding discussions we have!

WE’RE NOT REALLY INTO THE POSEY KIND OF STUFF…

Good, because neither am I. I like to document the day as it happens and focus on capturing the emotion and people that are the most important to you. I won’t get you to fake anything, and the photos will reflect who you really are. Hopefully, you will hardly even notice I’m there – I don’t carry a lot of gear, and usually just melt into the background. During private moments, I stand back and create images that are candid and natural. During the portraits, I provide helpful direction to make sure that we are making the most of the light, and environment and that you are relaxed and comfortable.

HOW WILL WE RECEIVE OUR PHOTOS?

When your images are ready, I will send you a link to your password-protected, online gallery which will allow you to download all the high-resolution photos from your day.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE WEDDING?

I encourage all my clients to take a day off work after their honeymoon and before they head back to work and to book in a time for us to catch up and enjoy your images and to finalize album designs and options. It’s important to me that you are not kept waiting for your images and I endeavour to have your images ready for you to view within 3-4 weeks of your wedding.

WHAT CAN WE DO WITH THE DIGITAL FILES? ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS?

There are absolutely no restrictions. They’re yours to enjoy. Print, Facebook, email, and share those images in any way you know!

HOW DO WE BOOK YOU FOR OUR WEDDING?

To start with, fill in the contact form HERE, with the date and location of your wedding, as well as any other details that you would like to discuss. If I’m available, and you’re ready to proceed, all I require to secure the booking is a signed contract and a 30% deposit. After that, we’re ready to go! Bookings are made on a first-come, first-served basis.

DO YOU SHOOT COUPLE/ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS?

Yes, and I place more emphasis on the engagement shoot than any other photographer around.

During this time we have the opportunity to:

1. Get to know each other better.

2. I have the opportunity to learn more about how to best photograph you both. What are your best/favourite angles and what do we need to keep in mind.

3. Create images that are so useful leading up to the wedding on invites or for use at the wedding.

4. Have time to become more relaxed in front of the camera.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY?

I photograph in a documentary style, focusing on real moments so that your images are a true reflection of your day. As well as this I will gently guide you during the location shoot so you are never left feeling awkward ensuring your images remain tasteful and timeless.

DO WE RECEIVE DIGITAL FILES?

Absolutely Yes! with all of my packages, you will receive all the high-resolution images free of the watermark.

DO YOU USE A SECOND PHOTOGRAPHER ON THE WEDDING DAY?

One piece of feedback I always receive from clients: “We barely even realized you were there!”. This is my favorite thing to hear.
Almost all of the weddings photographed on my website are me shooting alone. If you feel you need an extra photographer on your day I am happy to provide a quote.

HOW MANY IMAGES WILL WE RECEIVE?

In general, I deliver around 70-100 images per hour. The number of images you receive can be a result of varying factors, such as the number of details, amount of portrait time, and the number of guests. The images delivered will represent the parts of the day covered.

WILL OUR IMAGES BE EDITED?

Absolutely, I work with the color palette, soften and sharpen certain areas, and adjust the contrast. I also apply subtle airbrushing to the skin. I don’t reshape people’s bodies or drastically change the look of anything to ensure your images are timeless and a true reflection of your day.

DO WE NEED TO PROVIDE A SHOT LIST FOR YOU TO FOLLOW?

I like to capture the day how it naturally unfolds. A shot list can take the spontaneity out of the experience, and won’t allow me to be creative and be truly “in the moment”. Be assured that all of your big moments will be captured and don’t worry, I love capturing even the tiniest of details.

DO YOU TAKE FAMILY PHOTOS AFTER THE CEREMONY?

Yes. I believe they are an important part of the day that shouldn’t be overlooked. I have methods that help these happen quickly, yet still making sure that people look great and are having a great time.

DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH THE GUESTS AT OUR WEDDING?

Yes. While I don’t spend too much time doing them, I believe they are an important part of the day that shouldn’t be overlooked. I have methods that help these happen quickly, yet still making sure that people look great and are having a great time.

DO YOU OFFER VIDEOGRAPHY?

I don’t, but know some amazingly talented people who do. Send me an email and I’ll forward their details.

HOW MUCH TIME DO WE NEED FOR PORTRAITS?

Generally, around 1 hour is plenty, which doesn’t include travel time. I always recommend trying and stick close to where your guests are instead of travelling far and wide – after all – it’s all about the love, not the location.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME FOR PORTRAITS?

One thing you can’t control on your wedding day is the weather. However, you can do a few things to try and get the best out of the light on the day – try and avoid the middle of the day when the sun is directly overhead and can cause harsh shadows. The last hour of light before sunset is always beautiful and dreamy, and the best kind of forecast is overcast and cloudy. If it’s super sunny, we’ll try and find an area of full shade so you’re not all sweaty and shadowy

HOW LONG WILL YOU BE THERE ON OUR WEDDING DAY?

My basic package covers 7 hours, and from there it goes to full-day coverage. This means I’m there for the preparations through to the dance floor. I’m there to document your story, so, if you like, I can be there for breakfast. It’s up to you what time I begin, but typically I will show up for hair and makeup and go from there.

FOR ALL-DAY COVERAGE, WHEN DO YOU GO HOME?

Each wedding is different and special, I usually stay until the dance floor is pumping and grandma is getting tired. Generally, I find once the dance floor is happening most of the photos of the day are captured. Usually, this is around 11 pm.

DO YOU OFFER ALBUMS AND FINE ART PRINTS?

I sure do – there is nothing like feeling the photo, not just seeing it. I offer some amazingly beautiful albums made in Italy. Read more here.

WILL YOU HOLD A DATE FOR US?

I can’t hold a date for you, but I can let you know if someone else enquires about the same date before you’ve booked me. However, it is a first-come, first-served kind of thing – so whoever pays their deposit first secures the date.

DO YOU EDIT EVERY PHOTO?

Every single one. I love creating that classic film look. The editing process is just as much of my service as is the photography and takes almost as long.

ARE YOU INSURED?

I certainly am, I have $10,000,000 public liability insurance.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT SAME-SEX MARRIAGE?

I’m all for it, I totally believe that any two people in love should have the right to get married.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?

I use Sony bodies and generally use prime lenses. I only use flash if it’s absolutely necessary, much preferring the use of natural light.
